ABOUT LOVE…

ART BACKGROUND

Alexandra Love grew up in Asheville, North Carolina and received her Bachelor degree in Art Management with a minor in Business from Appalachian State University. Before graduating, she interned and later worked at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in Boulder, Colorado. Here, she fine-tuned her curating knowledge and later began working under the Event Coordinator there. This experience led her into later becoming an Event Coordinator at various wedding venues around Asheville. As an Event Coordinator, she became increasingly aware and disturbed with the immense amount of waste produced. At the end of each event, she would find a way to reuse the many flowers that were usually tossed after a few short hours of use. This continuous cycle of waste was incredibly conflicting for her so she stepped away from the wedding industry for a few years and got back into the arts. During this period, Alex gained more experience in the art realm through volunteering, teaching and working with disabled students at the nonprofit, Open Hearts Art Center in Asheville. Here, she expanded her knowledge on the therapeutic benefits of art in all forms of expression.

After spending three years living in Australia and New Zealand, as well as traveling extensively around SE Asia, she gained greater perspective of sustainability and recognition of the vast waste produced here in America. In 2019, she moved to Missoula, Montana where she speculated on a way to tie together her artistic talent, event expertise and great passion in waste reduction. A month after her move, she started up ReLove, a small art flower preservation business. Each piece of art is made of 100% recycled materials. Each frame, mirror, window, flowers and leaves were rescued and repurposed. Alex explores with a wide range of mediums she intertwines with her pressed flowers and greenery. Alex refurbished but intentionally leaves her rescued windows distressed to further signify recognizing beauty even in items we view as waste. She now also builds her own frames out of repurposed barn wood.

You can find Alex selling her work at some of the local markets around Montana and find ReLove products scattered in shops across the US.
